SCUM : English Defence League member found guilty of threatening Muslim taxi driver because of his religion

CHARLES DICKIE of TENNYSON ROAD, DAVENTRY - RACIST SCUM

English Defence League member found guilty of threatening Muslim taxi driver because of his religion

A MAN who claims to be a member of the English Defence League has been found guilty of threatening a Muslim taxi driver because of his religion, after “refusing” to attend court to mount a defence to the charge.
Charles Dickie, aged 23, was due to appear before magistrates in Northampton yesterday to stand trial over an incident in Daventry earlier this month, but he would not get into a prison van to transport him to the hearing, the court heard.
After hearing the case in his absence, chair of the bench, Mabel Lilley, found the case against Dickie proved, and said the magistrates were minded to impose a 20-week prison sentence when Dickie could be brought before the court.
Taxi driver Sultan Ahmed said he had worked in Daventry for the past three-and-a-half years. He said that on Friday, March 2, he had been waiting for a customer in Brook Street at about 4.30pm when he was approached by Dickie.
Speaking through an interpreter, he said: “He said we are here, all over this place, in this country, and you are not welcome here.”
Dickie then sang a song insulting both Islam and Mr Ahmed and uttered expletives, before moving in closer and pointing to his genitals.
Mr Ahmed said: “He looked very angry and aggressive. He looked as if he was about to fight with me.”
Giovanni D’Alessandro, prosecuting, said Dickie had told police officers when arrested: “I’m not racist. I don’t like Muslims.”
He also talked continuously about the EDL and made threats towards a planned mosque in Daventry, the court was told.
Magistrates heard Dickie, of Tennyson Road, in Daventry, was previously convicted of making racially-aggravated threats in 2007, and they were shown evidence from his Facebook site to support the prosecution case.
Sentencing, Mrs Lilley said: “We feel this was a particularly nasty incident directed towards Mr Ahmed.
“There was a certain amount of planning on Mr Dickie’s part. He deliberately insulted Mr Ahmed and used abusive and insulting words towards him.”
In a statement to the court, Mr Ahmed said he had been “deeply upset and hurt” by Dickie’s actions, adding: “I can’t understand why Mr Dickie felt the way he did, to voice such hatred.”
Magistrates revoked a community order previously imposed against Dickie for an assault in Blackpool in May last year and for failure to surrender to bail.
Mrs Lilley said she was minded to sentence Dickie to four weeks in prison for the assault and two weeks for the bail offence, along with the 20 weeks for the religiously-aggravated offence against Mr Ahmed.
However, sentencing was adjourned to a date yet to be set.

Anti-fascists mobilise against English Defence League summit in Denmark

Hundreds of demonstrators will confront the English Defence League tomorrow as the far-right group holds its first ever European summit in a bid to set up a Continent-wide alliance of anti-Islamic organisations.

Danish activists claimed that as many as 4,000 anti-fascist activists would make their way to the town of Aarhus, where the meeting is due to take place tomorrow afternoon, from the UK, Denmark and Germany.

Organisers said they would march one hour before an EDL rally in the town, in what they predicted would be the country’s largest anti-fascist mobilisation in 15 years.

Danish members of Anti-Fascist Action, the group believed to be heavily involved in violence which followed the eviction of squatters from a Copenhagen youth centre in 2006, plan to take part in the anti-EDL march.

The group has a ferocious reputation for robust opposition to any far-right demonstrations. But members today insisted they would march peacefully.

The group was keeping a look out for EDL members arriving in Denmark last week and set up a hotline for people to report sightings.

A post on the group’s website read: “Up to 50 participants at Saturday’s racist demonstration over the last few days arrived at Copenhagen.

Today, the group reported seeing EDL leader Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – also known as Tommy Robinson – arrive in Copenhagen.

“Already Monday, a group of suspicious looking people – about 40 – observed in central Copenhagen. They were followed by a group of police officers.”

One member said today that they expected to be joined by a broad coalition of left-wing groups and trades unions from Denmark and Germany.

They said that nine buses from Copenhagen were planned to ferry more than 400 demonstrators from the Danish capital to join local residents and members of anti-fascist groups from Denmark and Germany.
Anti-EDL demonstrators from the British group Unite Against Fascism have also travelled to Denmark to confront the group.

The EDL will take a small team into the talks, which Mr Yaxley-Lennon insisted would take place behind closed doors this week. But its delegation will be joined by a larger contingent of supporters who will hold a rally in Aarhus from 2pm, local time.

The talks are expected to be attended by Defence Leagues from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the USA, Italy, Poland and Finland, along with the anti-Muslim groups Stop Islamisation of Europe, Stop Islamisation of the World and the far-right European Freedom Initiative.

They said they wanted to set up a pan-European Defence League to deal with problems they claim are caused by “Islamification”.

It is expected several hundred supporters of the various Defence Leagues will attend. Danish Police advised local residents to stay away from the area of Aarhus expected to be targeted by the demos, saying they expected heavy traffic.

Last week, a group of around 5,000 people attended an anti-EDL concert. The Mayor’s Office said the concert was set up to show that Aarhus “does not want to be associated with extremist groups [which represent] everything we want to distance ourselves from”

Rivals (a review) : Documentary on the continued rivalry and hostility between Celtic and Rangers supporters

Good film documenting the rivalry and politics of the Old Firm following. Now, this is much better than I expected it to be. The premise of the English lad who made this is that essentially both sides, Celtic or Rangers, are essentially the same, just divided by an old tribal rivalry based upon religion, expressed through football. And whilst from a sociological point of view he may have a point, that is also the case between the loyalist and the republican communities in the 6 counties too. But that in itself tells you nothing. It is politics that is key here - as in most things. And the different politics of the two supports shines through here.

So, are they all the same? Judge for yourself. But when it comes to wrapping yourself in the iconoography of Royalty, Orange supremacy and Empire or the symbolism of Irish Republicanism, ant-fascism and Che Guevara, well, where do you think I'm going to stand?

Incidentally, the film maker says he and his crew were attacked by Rangers supporters whilst trying film - for being English - but then whoever said loyalist bigotry and racism was logical? And the footage shows they were clearly intimidated and harrassed by supporters of this team pretty much throughout their filming. Whereas the Celtic supporters shown appear to have welcomed them into their pubs and clubs warmly - albeit boisterously! That in itself I believe speaks volumes about the politics and culture of the respective support.

And you know, I dont beleive every Rangers supporter is a fascist. Well, not until there is a match on. Ive met plenty of Rangers fans who were self defining socialists, scottish nationalists, anti-racists etc. But get a few pints inthem on match day, and they will be belting out 'Billy Boy' with the best off them, drunkenly singing of how they are "up to their knees in fenian blood" and lauding the exploits of the fascist gang leader Billy Fullerton. 90 minute bigtos they may be, but a hell of a lot of damage can be done in those 90 minutes. Doesn't even take 90 seconds to cut a young boys throat.

There are those, particularly within the SNP, who claim Rangers is a part of Scotland, a part of our tradition and culture and for that it should be saved. And it may be all those things, but they are the very worst aspects of our nation and our culture, celebrating our shame, our involvement in Empire and colonisation, our lackeying and our soldiering for Englands conquests.
And Rangers provides a focus for the celebration and continuation of that. Without Rangers such views would still exists, bigotry will not die overnight, but it would no longer have a home, a hot house to nurture and grow in.

Rangers demise would be one step forward on the path to a progressive Scotland of equals.

EDL thugs support UK govt. colonialism - Press TV

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/224889.html

The members of the racist group English Defence League have put the colonial policy of UK government in practice, as they burned the Argentinean flag during their fascist march in Leicester.

About 500 EDL thugs descended to the streets in Leicester to provoke racism and division among the community, despite rising calls on the City Council to ban the racist protest.

As the British government has been seeking to militarize the dispute over the “occupied” Malvinas (Falklands) Islands, the far right EDL group, believed to be formed by the government, supported the country's controversial policies and burned the flag of Argentina.

Just before the demonstration EDL member Craig Leicester claimed they planned to march because England was “struggling to sustain its culture,” and that the EDL protests would raise awareness over the cost of UK culture.

Anti-racist group Leicester Unite Against Fascism (LUAF) also planned a counter protest entitled as “Love Leicester, Hate Racism” on different route to express their opposition at the racists and fascists supporters of EDL.

According to unconfirmed sources, minor clashes took place between EDL thugs and UAF protesters, after the racist protesters diverted away from their planned route. Police handled the situation using their batons.

The sources also reported that the police kettled the UAF protesters who were staging a peaceful demonstration on a separate route through the city center.

Twitter posts also revealed that many of the EDL thugs had consumed a lot of alcohol and that there were many young children among them.

Some 2,200 police officers were presented in the city center and monitored the two marches in order to avoid the violence degenerated by the EDL supporters in October 2010, when they turned a peaceful anti-racist protest into violence by attacking people and police, they even launched an attack on a restaurant full of women and children.

EDL wants taste of Tea Party's Islamophobia

So, the EDL claim they are opposed to foreign influence over our politics and society... and then go running off to take lessons off the yanks. - Real SDL

Tentative links are developing between supporters of the reactionary Tea Party movement in the US and right-wing fringe groups in Britain opposed to what they call the "Islamification" of Europe.

The movements are not yet formally aligned, but the racist English Defence League (EDL), which insists that Islamic fundamentalism will soon engulf Britain, is busy building bridges with US figures who take a similar anti-Islamic position.

Extreme right-wing British organisations are gravitating towards anti-Islamic groups.

One such is candidate for the California state legislature Rabbi Nachum Shifren, who plans to visit England next week in a trip partly sponsored by the EDL.

The trip was organised by EDL activist Roberta Moore, who has formed a "Jewish division" of the group.

She said that the rabbi would speak at an October 24 rally in London.

"He plans to speak about the dangers of Islamification both in this country and in America," she said.

"We have the same objectives as the groups in the US, and we want to exchange information and work with them."

Nottingham University Professor Matthew Goodwin, an expert on extremist groups in Britain, warned: "We're seeing groups across Europe trying to form a transnational challenge to Islam.

"Going to the US is particularly interesting because the far-right in Britain has never gone that way before.

"It has always gone toward Europe.

"If it does forge strong links to the Tea Party, it would be important because the Tea Party has significant resources."

Rabbi Shifren, who has given anti-Islamic talks at Tea Party events, boasted in an interview that he planned to warn Britons their country is being lost as "fundamentalist Islam" gains strength.

"I see England going down and I want to cry out and do everything I can to prevent that, to work with the EDL," he said.

Ms Moore revealed that the EDL had also reached out to high-profile Islamophobe Pamela Geller.

She is a far-right US activist who runs an organisation called Stop Islamisation of America which is linked with similar groups across the world.

Ms Geller said she supports the English group's approach but had not yet met its leaders or agreed to any joint projects.

However she added: "I share their goal of resisting Islamic supremacism and defending free societies."
